What will the 2014 GED test look like?


Special Features of the 2014 GED:



Some of the 2014 GED® test features are:
  • Alignment from day one to national and state college- and career-readiness standards
  • Same-day scoring
  • Detailed score report including college- and career-readiness information
  • Flexible testing and pay as you go options 
About the test:

  1. Reasoning Through Language Arts:  150 minutes in three sections (51 items)
  2. Mathematics:  90 minutes in two sections (46 items)
  3. Science:  90 minutes in 1 section (34 items)
  4. Social Studies:  90 minutes in two sections (35 items)
Language Arts
  • 75% informational texts, 25% literature
  • A range of text complexity
  • Text length 450-900 words
  • Vocabulary (emphasis on words that appear frequently in a wide variety of disciplines e.g., relative, vary , formulate, dignified, calibrate)
What student need to do for reading:
  • draw specific comparisons between two texts
  • distinguish between valid arguments and faulty reading
  • distinguish between supported and unsupported claims
  • make inferences made by the author
What students need to do for writing"
  • draw relevant and sufficient evidence from texts
  • produce a response that includes: specific evidence, effective organizational structure, appropriate vocabulary and standard English conventions (punctuation)
Social Studies Content
  • 50% Civics and Government 
  • 20% United States History 
  • 15% Economics 
Types of Questions
  • Extended Response
  • Multiple choice
  • Technology Enhanced (fill-in-blank, hot-spot, drag/drop, drop down)
Science Content
  • 40% Life Science
  • 40% Physical Science
  • 20% Earth and Space Science

  • Pay and take the Official Practice Test which is now called the GED Ready(18+)
  • Be able to schedule for tests

Please note:
Underage students will need to follow the same OPT procedures as they did for the 2002 test until new procedures have been developed.
